Abstract:Objective：To explore the distribution of physical examination body mass index（BMI）of urban residents in Jiangyin and its relationship with common chronic diseases. Methods：Randomly selected 3304 urban residents participating in public health examinations in a hospital in Jiangyin from 2017 to 2019 as research objects，comparing the differences in physical examination indicators between different BMI groups，different genders，and age groups，and analyzing relationship between BMI and the prevalence of chronic diseases such as hypertension，diabetes and dyslipidemia. Results：The BMI overweight rate gradually increased with age. Differences in the prevalence of hypertension and diabetes were existed among people of different ages and genders.In the BMI groups，the prevalence of common chronic diseases in the overweight and obese groups over 45 years old was significantly higher than that in the control group，and the prevalence of common chronic diseases in the obese group was higher than that of the overweight group. The overweight and obese group over 45 years old had two or more chronic diseases than the control group，the differences were statistically significant（p＜0.05）. Conclusion：The overweight rate of residents in Jiangyin’s urban physical examination is relatively high，and the detection rate of chronic diseases is high. The obesity group has obvious co-occurrence of multiple diseases. The concept of healthy life should be advocated，health awareness should be promoted，and the prevalence of overweight and obesity should be curbed.
