Abstract:By Febrary 23,2022,Macao had 80 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 31 asymptomatic cases since the first case was reported on January 22,2021,with more than 80% of the cases imported. It has witnessed three times of stringent measures in the last two years, which lasted 2-4 weeks and were characterized by shutting down of Casinos and other entertainment and recreational places. Macao implemented three COVID-19 nucleic acid testings in 2021 but no cases were detected. Macanese have generally lived a normal life for the past two years. At the same time, they abide by the anti-COVID-19 regulations decreed by the local government, such as wearing masks, washing hands, and keeping social distance. While living a normal life,Macanese have been haunted by the uncertainty of the COVID-19 epidemic prospect and its lasting impact on the tourism and gambling industry and they were at a high risk of developing mental health problems. This article described the strategies taken by the local government to maintain mental health for its people, including economic support and mental health services. Shortcomings in current strategies were discussed and suggestions for improvements were offered.
